Ministries

This is a partial listing of ministries at St. Gabriel the Archangel Catholic Church. If you are interested in taking part in any of these ministries, please contact the parish office (504-282-0296).

Liturgical Ministries

·        Lectors – Proclaim the Word of God during the liturgy.  Must be confirmation age or older.

·        Eucharistic Ministers – Assist the priest in distribution of Holy Communion during the liturgy.

·        Ushers – Greet and assist people in seating, take up the collection

·        Altar Servers – Assist the priest during liturgical celebrations.  Anyone fourth grade to adult is welcome.

·        Church Attendants – Opens and closes church before and after liturgical celebrations.

·        Church Sacristans – Sets up items in preparation for liturgical celebrations.

·        Music Ministers – Choir, musicians

·        Liturgical Dancers

·        Caretaker for Church Linens 

·        Bread Bakers

·        Décor/Liturgical Environment – Prepares the church for various liturgical  seasons (i.e., decorating for Christmas and Easter)

·        Liturgy Planning Committee – Plans liturgies for major liturgical feasts and seasons of the year.

Faith Formation

·        Parish School of Religion – Pre-K through 12^th grade , Sep – May

·        Liturgy of the Word for Children – Assists children in the liturgy at their level during 10:30 Mass

·        Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults  - Works with adults who are interested in becoming members of the Catholic Church

·        Faith Enrichment Facilitator/Instructor – Plans, facilitates, and assists with faith enrichment classes and seminars.

Youth Ministry

·        Adult Moderator – Organizes/coordinates activities in a holistic youth program for middle and high school youth focusing on spiritual growth, leadership, social skills development, and discipleship.

(VOLUNTEERS WITH YOUTH MUST COMPLETE SAFE ENVIRONMENT TRAINING AND BACKGROUND CHECK)

Community Outreach and Justice  

·        All Congregations Together – Faith-based community advocacy group

·        Pontilly – Neighborhood civic association

·        Social Justice Ministry – Education and action for justice.

·        Ministry for Racial Justice and Harmony

·        St. Vincent de Paul – Emergency assistance to those in need

·        Ministry to the Homeless – Serves meals at Ozanam Inn

·        Tutor/Mentor (schools and Café Reconcile)

Family Life Ministries

·        Ministry to the Engaged – Assists in preparing young couples for marriage

·        Wedding Preparation Ministry – Assists couples to plan the wedding ceremony and coordinate the wedding rehearsal.

·        Baptism Ministry – Assists parents to prepare for Baptism of their children.

Pastoral Care Ministries

·        Bereavement /Lay Presider Ministry – Assists with funerals, memorial masses.  Lay Presider leads prayer service at beginning of visitation for funerals.

·        Eucharistic Ministry to the Sick and Homebound – Brings communion and visits with the sick and homebound of our parish

Community Life and Support Ministries

·        St. Gabriel Prayer Ministry -  Prayer fellowship and commitment to pray for the petitions of our parishioners

·        Health and Wellness Ministry

·        Plant and Garden Ministry – Care of plants in church, care of plants on church grounds

·        Helping Hands Ministry – Assists with the maintenance of the church’s physical plant

·        Social Celebration Ministry – Plans and coordinates periodic church socials, dinners, dances, etc.

·        Parish Office Ministry

·        Parish Census Taker

·        Photography Ministry

·        Grant Writing Ministry
